Analysis

TANGERINE TREES improved by 34lbs last season and improved again to win on his first start in a Group race having won his first start in Listed company on his final start of the season when beating Tax Free over course and distance to draw comparisons with Markab. Bryan Smart's gelding jumped sharply and had just enough in hand to repel the late challenges which came on both sides; his trainer believes that there may still be more to come and has him entered in the King's Stand but will also look at the Temple Stakes although warned that he's not a horse that would take too much racing. Astrophysical Jet had burst onto the sprinting scene last year but she proved most disappointing under a 3lb penalty and had cried enough with two furlongs to run; she may need more time to come to hand. Rain Delayed had finished a long way behind the filly in the Flying Five when with Ger Lyons but ran his best race to date for Michael Dods, scything through the field in the final furlong to be nearest at the line; further success awaits him on this evidence. Jonny Mudball wasn't beaten far in either the Stewards Cup or the Ayr Gold Cup and made a smooth transition to Pattern company. This was his first run over the minimum and he was staying on strongly to suggest that he'll be more effective back over six furlongs. He dead-heated with shock Nunthorpe winner Sole Power who was prominent throughout and bounced back to form after a disappointing run in Dubai. Borderlescott proved that he's still a force to be reckoned with at this level at the age of nine and could go to Haydock next for the Temple Stakes as he has done in recent seasons. Iver Bridge Lad has been the model of consistency for his yard but lacked the pace to be effective over five furlongs in this company and looks set for a step back up to six. Group Therapy came through to win his race on his first start for new connections but lost several places close him; he may have been at a disadvantage racing on the far side of the track and can be given another chance.
