The field raced in two groups with the far side coming out on top. ENTIFAADHA, a 360,000 guineas half-brother to Regal Parade and a Champagne Stakes entry, made an impressive debut and was going away at the line. He can be expected to improve although he did show a bit of a knee action and may not want conditions to ride too fast. Storming Bernard had shaped well at a big price in a Windsor maiden and was the first horse from the race to run subsequently. He appreciated the step up to seven furlongs (related to 12f winner), keeping on well with the rail to help and appears to have some scope although he was no match for the winner. Fencing, the first foal of a smart mare, holds a Royal Lodge entry and is presumably held in some regard. He made good late progress from the rear under predominantly hands and heels riding and looks more than capable of winning an average maiden. He edged out the more strongly ridden Burano for third and the favourite had looked in trouble with over a quarter of a mile to run. He may still be a shade green but this was disappointing in light of the promise that he had shown on debut; he still holds a Champagne Stakes entry but has something to prove after this run. David Elsworth has his juveniles in good form and Monymusk stepped up significantly from his debut over five furlongs at Windsor, appreciating the longer trip - he could make his mark in a nurseries after another run. Goldream, the first foal of a smart dam, shaped encouragingly at a big price for a yard whose youngsters usually benefit from a run with Mubaraza (backed at big prices), Cades Reef, Prepared and Protanto amongst others to show ability. The disappointment of the race was Paladin who had been made favourite for the course maiden contested by Burano in June; he was under pressure with over two furlongs to run and could only plug on at the one pace. His two siblings failed to win on the Flat but have both gone on to score over hurdles and he may need a stiffer test.
