Analysis

A maiden slightly delayed due to the inexperience of some young horses on the way to the start but in the end quite a taking performance from BRIDGEFIELD. Sporting the sheepskin noseband that he had worn on debut at Newmarket (as many from the yard do), he was more alert at the start here and was always in the front rank on the stands side of a clustering group. Settled into a good rhythm by his jockey, he struck the front around the three furlong marker still travelling well and he was committed for home two furlongs out. Quickly taking two lengths out of his rivals he kept the gallop up all the way to the line and was a comfortable winner under hands and heels. Like the first maiden, there was a promising performance from a newcomer as Kirthill took second. Kieren Fallon wasn't overly hard on this strapping son of Danehill Dancer (having been keen early in the first half of the race) and he'll win next time granted a suitable test of stamina. Having helped set a fairly honest pace, Sirius Prospect did well to rally in the final 50 yards to pinch third spot from Red Lover. Ed Dunlop's colt travelled well in a position just ahead of midfield and he ran on well; a win may not be far away. A couple of lengths away in fifth was Figaro. He'd looked wet behind the ears at Newmarket on debut and once again showed signs of greenness, especially before the loading up process. Loading up took a while and some had been in the stalls for a while so it was no real surprise that a couple missed the break, including Korngold. He caught the eye further back under hands and heels and is now eligible for handicaps, whilst Fadhaa made a bright debut. He travelled well near the pace but the response wasn't immediate when asked to quicken by Richard Hills. He has the sort of action that suggests softer ground will suit but he should be much wiser next time. Levitate, one of several to attack healthy support in the ring, was never a factor, having to be given a couple of taps down his withers by Ryan Moore to keep in a straight line late on. A mention goes to Lightning Cloud who stayed on from a midfield position to fill seventh spot and is another to look out for in handicaps, whilst newcomer Steenbok, having sported a Monty Roberts rug behind the stalls, showed some promise before tiring late on.
