Analysis

PIGEON ISLAND wrapped up a tremendous day for Paddy Brennan and Nigel-Twiston Davies as the grey appeared late on the scene to snatch victory. He had endured a run of seconds earlier in the season but got it right on the big day with Brennan clearly unable to do anything wrong on a memorable afternoon. French Opera ran a superb race in defeat under top weight, striking for home after two out under his young rider and almost pulling off the victory for Nicky Henderson. Consigliere moved smoothly into the race off the home turn and looked the most likely winner but could not quite find a finishing burst - this was a gutsy effort nonetheless. Cornas has been keeping better company than this and ran well also under a big weight. Tartak looked to have every chance but was found wanting while You're The Top made a hash of the ninth fence and could not recover before being pulled up.
