Analysis

The rain was really teeming down at this stage and the ground was easing all the time and PAUSE AND CLAUSE was a clear-cut winner. His trainer was worried that the rain may scupper his chances but he coped well and proved he has an affinity with the course after his excellent third in the Coral Cup 12 months ago. Radium travelled well into contention to challenge the winner at the last but he stumbled a little at the flight and that mistake halted his momentum. Stablemate Peveril was on a four-timer and although his winning run was halted, he ran extremely well and should enjoy more success. Philip Hobbs has enjoyed a good week and his Clova Island kept on well up the hill while Ashkazar moved through the field with some menace but his effort petered out late in the day.
