Analysis

A heart-warming performance from BUENA VISTA, as he made all the running for the second year running. His jockey Conor O'Farrell was having his first Festival ride, and he judged the pace to perfection. Sent through to lead after the first flight, he put in foot-perfect leaps at every obstacle last, and having got a breather into him before the top of the hill, the pair soon kicked on again. Everything behind him, bar runner-up Son Amix (under Paul Carberry), was off the bridle, and turning in it was pretty evident that as long as he jumped the last two flights of hurdles well he would not be for catching. Son Amix was well-clear from the rest and ran a career-best as, having travelled well in midfield, he moved through the pack menacingly. Unfortunately the leader (and eventual winner) had been given slightly too much rope by the field and he was never going to be able to bridge the gap. Sivota was another who came from off the pace, and he was staying on very strongly at the line. However he only really seemed to find his stride turning in and was probably slightly flattered by the race as a result. Arguably the second best performance in the race was from the fourth home Knockara Beau. The top-weight was giving the first three home between 18 and 20lbs and he managed to cling on for fourth from Queiros Bleu despite a stuttery jump at the last. Never far off the speed, he tried to lay down a challenge to the winner from around half-way but this fine horse was unable to sustain a realistic challenge after the second last. Henry de Bromhead has had a great week and he saddled Queiros Bleu who was held up last for a long way and did remarkably well to finish where he did, whilst Barwell Bridge was another held up. He crept closer coming down the hill but was another to pay for the way the race panned out. Viking Blond likes to lead but, having been pushed into the lead at the fall of the flags, he whacked an early flight and had to settle for more of a midfield berth than his jockey would probably have liked. To the horse's credit he ran on for pressure and was far from disgraced in seventh. Tarablaze travelled well for a long way but didn't pick up when asked, whilst Don't Push It was gambled on but never threatened. Rivage D'Or travelled well for a long way but was made to look a bit one-paced when he came off the bridle coming down the hill, whilst Chartreux got a perfect tow through but was well-held when hitting two from home.
