Analysis
A typically competitive race with an unsurprisingly competitive finish but it was SAGRAMOR who just edged it. Hughie Morrison's colt came into the race with a consistent and progressive profile and he was never too far off the pace in the near side group. Jockey Nicky Mackay pushed him closer to the lead with two furlongs to run and his willing partner struck the front a furlong out. Both jockey and horse were at full stretch as the challengers made efforts around him but he stuck his neck out for a hard-earned half length success. Cai Shen came from a long way back under Richard Hughes, having travelled in the rear of the centre group. He was still on the bridle as the race developed but there were suddenly lots of horses in front of him as the two groups merged. He got a clear run but just found his stride too late in the day; this was a great effort under top-weight and this consistent colt is effective over several trips. Third home, in a very tight finish was The Tichborne. He showed great pace throughout and was kicked into a clear lead with three furlongs to go. To his credit he continued to find for Jack Mitchell when the challengers came, and both horse and jockey should be very proud of this run. Belgian Bill came with a strong run two furlongs out, but was perhaps put off slightly by having to challenge through a tight gap on the rail. Prior to that he had found his path blocked several times and his effort can therefore be upgraded significantly, although to be fair he had long enough to win it if he was good enough. Next home was Trade Storm who was under pressure from a long way out, whilst Cruiser kept battling for his jockey late on. Bahceli, Bridgefield and Chain Lightning all ran their races but were just found lacking, whilst Ashva was another to run well in the centre of the track. Madawi ran on well in the closing stages, with the maiden dropping back in trip, whilst Tinkertown was another to put in a typically consistent performance.
