Analysis
No prizes for guessing that stamina won the day as JUDGETHEMOMENT ground it out to the line to give Richard Hughes a memorable day one hat-trick. Jane Chapple-Hyam's inmate made his move from midfield and threw down his bid from two furlongs out. He was in front at the distance and kept on in relentless fashion to hold off Sesenta and Royale Rationale. The latter two runners represented trainers more familiar in the jumps sphere - Willie Mullins and David Pipe - but both clearly know the time of day in events of this nature and were unfortunate to come up against a progressive rival at the top of his game. The Northumberland Plate is up next and he would have a leading chance if getting over what was quite a battle. Kayf Aramis was well fancied with Johnny Murtagh up but he was below his best on the day. Murtagh booted him into a clear lead turning in but his effort was pretty short-lived, Murtagh also being handed a lengthy ban for his move which badly hampered Ermine Sea. Missoula and Liberate had been on the sharp end in this event 12 months go but neither could land a blow and finished well in arrears.
