GRANDS CRUS looked well handicapped on a line through Sanctuaire as he had been beaten 4 lengths by the subsequent winner of the Fred Winter when attempting to concede 16lbs but had escaped any subsequent rise in the weights. One or two of the yard's horses had shaped as though they might be in the run but Grands Crus was well backed throughout the morning and was sent off second favourite behind For Non Stop who was also very well backed having run out a ready winner on debut for Nick Williams at Chepstow. In contrast Lush Life was very weak in the market, he raced wide throughout - indeed the field raced in two clear groups as they came down the hill for the first time - in search of better ground, he briefly threatened at the top of the hill but was readily left behind and will no doubt come on for the run; his future probably lies over fences. Mister Hyde made good ground from the rear and was close enough at the top of the hill before he, too, was left behind by For Non Stop and Grands Crus who could both be seen travelling better than anything else throughout the contest. The first two home travelled just behind on the inside of the track throughout (both are proven on soft ground) with Tom Scudamore stalking Daryl Jacob from four from home. Tom Scudamore pulled Grand Crus out on the long run to the second last and he was in front by the time they reached that flight. He flicked through the top of the last but never looked like being reeled in and won with plenty to spare. He's sure to face a big rise in the weights for this win but looks capable of scoring again with conditions in his favour; connections report that his future lies over fences and that they were concerned about his lack of a run. For Non Stop has made a very impressive start for his new trainer and is sure to be placed to advantage before being sent chasing. Heez A Cracker and Rock County were well held but can be judged a little better than the bare form as they were held-up in rear on a day when it favoured those nearer the pace.
