Analysis

SILVINIACO CONTI had something to prove after flopping in the Reynoldstown at Ascot but he managed to in some style here. He also proved he truly stayed 3m+ for the first time and had to on rain-softened ground following a sharp shower in the run up to the race. Yes Tom and Join Together almost joined together jumping the first fence but they soon settled down into a rhythm up front and that allowed the winner to just track the pace in behind. When the going tough towards the business end of the contest the former was readily outclassed while the latter tried to go with Silviniaco Conti and Champion Court but just didn't have the tactical speed. He looks an out-and-out stayer and might excel at marathon trips. Champion Court is a very good yardstick and he holds the form up well as he was beaten by the classy Sir Des Champs at Cheltenham and he bumped into another good one here. He looks just short of top class but can win races. As for Silviniaco Conti, the future looks bright as he has a touch of class and plenty of tactical speed for a stayer. The big disappointment was Solix who didn't look to be going at any stage and was well beaten.
