Analysis

Barry Hills had won this maiden three times in the last six years and took his tally to four in seven with the success of COMMENDED. The Royal Applause colt had returned a beaten favourite on his final two starts as a juvenile and was again returned the market leader. He was bounced out into an early lead against the rail by Michael Hills and kept on well to the line to shed his maiden tag; he will need to continue to progress in order to make his mark in handicaps but connections are hopeful that he can do so. Afkar had shown ability behind a highly rated rival at Brighton and seemed more at home on this track; he was prominent throughout, posed the only challenge to the winner and looks to have some scope. L'Ami Louis was quite well backed and could be seen travelling well in midfield at the halfway stage having been a shade free early on; he picked up quite well without getting to the front pair. Dunseverick was another supported at big prices and showed ability; he missed the break but travelled well into midfield before weakening. Misk Khitaam and L'Hermitage had every chance and are now qualified for handicaps. Lieutenant Kojak ran a fair race at a big price but the well-bred Pagan Warrior was very green and can only improve.
