Analysis

TIME FOR RUPERT produced a breathtaking performance to land this prize and this has to go down as a very serious marker for the big staying novice events this term. Held up in touch, he jumped faultless throughout and having taken closer order at the ditch on the second circuit, he was brought to challenge with two to take and was able to secure the race with plenty of authourity. Hopes must be high for the Festival in March if he turns up in this order. Chicago Grey was held up off the pace in the early stages and was a little deliberate at his fences. That may have been down to his fall at the course in November. Despite a couple of errors, his class saw him get into contention with three to jump but he was a clear second best to the winner and his pursuit was to be in vain. Quinz enjoyed a clear run at the front having seen off his stablemate, Balthazar King. Richard Johnson ensured that the field were going to have to go a good clip to catch him but he was to tire once headed at the second last. This was a fair effort under the circumstances and these tactics might be more successful at a flatter track. Robo was making a big step up in grade having won twice at Fakenham. He made a couple of mistakes though kept on fourth. Regrettably, he finished the race with a leg injury and had to be put down. Balthazar King was well held and will be difficult to place. Cannington Brook chased the early pace though he weakened quickly once the race began in earnest.
