Analysis

Paul Nicholls had declared CALIPTO to be among his best, if not the best, juvenile prospect among his team and he was a warm order to win a race that the Ditcheat stable had taken with the likes of Al Ferof in the past. The opposition was only modest with principal form and market rival Seedling having shown his best form under faster conditions but he could do no more than win as he did and it's a case of job done for connections who were keen to get more experience into him. This is a world away from the level of form required to win a Triumph Hurdle but the form of his C&D win in December has worked out quite nicely with wins for the well beaten fourth and sixth although a good deal will have to be taken on trust by those wishing to side with him in March and bookmakers have erred on the side of caution in chalking him up at the same price as dual graded winner Le Rocher. This was a return to form from Little Jon following a disappointing run at Chepstow in December and this cheap purchase should be competitive in handicaps while a line can be put through the run of Seedling. There was some support for Justification but he failed to reward his followers on debut for this yard but it wouldn't be a surprise were his shrewd connections to find a suitable opening for him in the near future and it will be interesting to see if the money comes for him again.
