Analysis

A poignant victory and a first Group One success for Roger Varian with NAHRAIN who took the step up in class from Listed level in her stride to take her career record to four out of four. She had to work hard for success as well having been caught in a pocket in the straight but she showed a good attitude in amidst rivals and stuck her head down to win a protracted duel on the nod on her first run beyond a mile. Connections will now head home to discuss her future and it has to be entirely possible that she will be off to the paddocks having gained an all important top-level success. Announce already had a win at this level to her name having beaten Timepiece on her previous outing in the Prix Jean Romanet; she was produced to have every chance and ran right up to her best. Banimpire has been on the go all season and had a remarkable time of things but had run a rare bad race on her previous start in the Yorkshire Oaks. She returned to form, producing a typically game performance but was no match for the two fillies who finished in front of her having got first run and falls just short of this level. Sandy's Charm has progressed well since making her debut in March and she kept on steadily on her first run beyond a mile but was readily outpaced by the principals. This was just the sixth start of her career and she may have further improvement in her if returning next year. She just held off the challenges of Djumama and Epic Love in a race dominated by those that raced on the pace. The former has held her form well since winning the German Guineas in May and had finished second to Dancing Rain in the German Oaks; this was another solid performance but her best chance of winning at this level may be on her domestic scene as long as she can avoid Danedream. Epic Love carried a large reputation at the start of the season but had proved largely disappointing; this was much more like it and she may yet be able to fulfil her initial promise next season if kept in training as a number of her sire's progeny tend to improve with age.
