Temple Meads won this race last year and COMMISSAR certainly looks another useful sprinting prospect with the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot a likely objective for Paul Cole's impressive winner, who didn't go unbacked, according to connections. He had shown promise in a Newbury maiden won by Magic City (stablemate of Tell Dad) when well supported and he duly stepped up on that effort here. He settled well at the head of affairs for Jimmy Fortune and quickened well from the two pole under strong hands and heels riding to quickly put the race to bed and his rider only needed to show him the whip inside the final furlong to keep him on a straight line. He's a powerful colt who looks to have plenty of size and scope. Tell Dad is not as imposing physically as the winner but had shaped well on debut in a contest in which his trainer has introduced some smart types in recent years. He looked to just lose out through inexperience there but had no excuses here and doesn't appear to be anything out of the ordinary. He only just held on for second from Come On Blue Chip, a cheap purchase who was making his debut for Paul D'Arcy. His stable are in good form at present and he should have little difficulty winning a maiden on this evidence; he was staying on strongly at the finish once the penny dropped and should stay further in due course. Chunky Diamond raced too keenly, Red Aggressor showed pace for a long way before becoming unbalanced and can do better as can Mizbah and Democrates (who had attracted morning support) whilst Liebesziel kept on well for pressure but, with the exception of the winner, they don't appear to be anything out of the ordinary.
