Analysis
A strong performance from favourite BOBS WORTH. Always travelling well off the pace set by On His Own and Total Submission, Barry Geraghty moved him into contention at the top of the hill and from then on he always looked the one to beat. Although Habbie Simpson loomed up going equally well turning for home (with Choc Thornton lowering his goggles), he was soon put in his place by the winner and never really looked like closing down a three length lead after the last. The running-on Rose Of The Moon looked more of a threat but one got the impression that the winner was idling somewhat. He was cut for the 2m5f race at the Festival as a result of this run and it's easy to see why; this was an authoritative performance and he deserves to take on the top novices now. The runner-up was stepping up in trip but he ran here as if needing three miles already, getting outpaced down the hill and still only being seventh turning for home. Habbie Simpson ran well considering he was penalised to the full along with Astracad for earlier wins in the season; he will find easier opportunities than this. Sadly Lethal Glaze took a heavy fall at the second last when creeping into the race and suffered a severe leg injury; he had to be put down. Easter Meteor and Golden Chieftain ruined their chance with sloppy jumping, whilst Astracad was outpaced when the race started to hot up before plugging on. The fourth home, On His Own, ran a stonker on his hurdling debut. In the front rank throughout, the sizeable point-to-point winner was a bit cumbersome at some of his hurdles but he was still on the bridle coming down the hill and only got tired in the final quarter of a mile; he is a sure-fire winner in the near future.
