Shifting Power claimed a narrow success in the CSP European Free Handicap at Newmarket.

In what turned out to be a rather messy contest, despite just six horses lining up, Parbold took them along near the stands' rail, with Shifting Power and Miracle Of Medinah close in behind.

The eventual winner looked in a spot of bother passing the two-furlong marker, as Miracle Of Medinah and Mushir jostled for position at the head of affairs.

Aeolus also looked like getting in on the act at the race reached the closing stages, but Graham Lee was continually denied a clear run.

Ryan Moore kept the well-backed Shifting Power up to his work and the 13/8 favourite responded in kind, just pulling out enough to get on top and hold the rallying Mushir a head at bay.

A delighted Hannon said: "I thought that was a really nice performance.

"He is a big horse and will have needed that. He wants a mile.

"He is in the Guineas and will go for one of them. But which one I am not sure yet."

Sky Bet pushed the winner out to 33/1 from 25/1 for the 2000 Guineas.
