Foxrock outstayed his rivals to win the Grade Two Woodlands Park 100 Club Novice Chase at Naas.

Ted Walsh's six year old made the most of the drop in grade to win his second race over the larger obstacles and mark himself down as a smart staying chaser.

A promising third in the Topaz Novice Chase over Christmas, the market rated Sizing Gold as his only significant rival and the pair appeared to have the race between them as they pulled clear of the pack along with the front-running Rogue Angel.

The long-time leader cried enough turning for home and, soon, Sizing Gold - who had jumped brilliantly throughout - began to tread water in the testing conditions.

It was slow motion stuff in the closing stages but Foxrock kept on dourly under Danny Mullins to win comfortably with his market rival just clinging on for second from Clar Na Mionn who had come from a different parish to challenge for the places.

Owner Barry Connell said: "The plan is to go for the Ten Up Novice Chase at Navan next month and then the four-miler at Cheltenham. I'd be happier to go there rather than the RSA Chase. He handles that ground well and is going the right way.

"Sizing Gold was jumping really well but our fellow has an engine and kept moving up beside him. He's an exciting horse for the future and hopefully next year we can step him up into Grade One company."

Walsh added: "He jumps and stays and if he stays sound we'll have plenty of fun with him."
