Reneesgotzip showed blistering early speed and had her rivals at full stretch with two furlongs to run.
However the winner, stretching her record on the turf track at Santa Anita to a remarkable seven wins from seven races, always had her covered and was in front 50 yards from the post for a thrilling win.
Tightend Touchdown was another late closer and he forced a dead-heat for second with Reneesgotzip.
"We were much closer to the pace this year than last and she's made for this downhill course and she absolutely loves it. It's a great training job from Mike Puype and his team coming off a huge lay-off. Zenyatta knew where the line is - so does this mare. She's amazing," Smith beamed.
Winning trainer Puype added: "She's a very, very special filly and I will be sad to see her go. She gets on a plane tomorrow to go to the sales at Fasig-Tipton and she leaves a huge void in my life. She has tenacity, is a great looking filly, she brings it all to the table."
