Glens Melody (9/2) won the Frank Ward Solicitors Solerina Mares Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown for trainer Willie Mullins and jockey Paul Townend.

The winner's stablemate Zuzka was sent off the 2/5 favourite following a facile success here last time but the writing was on the wall for Ruby Walsh's mount from a long way out and she could only battle on for a well-beaten third.

In sharp contrast, Glens Melody - a six and a half length third behind the favourite last time - was always moving well for Townend and readily picked up Jennies Jewel before asserting on the run to the line.

"Mine's a good mare and is in very good form. It took her a while to come and she had a nice run the last day. I gave her a good chance," Townend told At The Races.

"Mr Mullins left it up to me and I had a chat with Ruby and he said she had come on a lot from when I last rode her.

"Everything worked out the best for me. She went through the ground and the race smoothly. Her form is solid and she couldn't have done any more today."

Mullins added: "We decided to ride her more positively today and it seems to have worked. We'll keep her to those mares' races and she'd have no problem over two and a half miles."
