Following victories aboard Morning Assembly, Solwhit and Tofino Bay on the first three races on the card, Russell was at it again in the colours of Gigginstown House Stud as he partnered Un Atout (2/7) to a facile victory.
Willie Mullins' five year old had scored by 24 lengths on his sole start last season and had won far more easily on his hurdling bow last month than the four and a half length winning distance suggests.
It was another wide-margin victory for the son of Robin Des Champs who brushed aside the useful Rory O'Moore with the minimum of fuss to score by 19 lengths.
Mullins said: "He jumped well and he was very strong in the ground. He stayed but he has plenty of gears too.
"I'm very happy with everything he did today. He'll be entered up in all the races.
"He's in the Deloitte. He'll hardly run before that and I don't know if I want him to run in that either.
"I have no wish to step him up in trip just yet."
The exciting prospect is an 8/1 chance from 16s with Sky Bet for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.
