Ruby Walsh's efforts to get down to ride at 10st 1lb were rewarded when his mount Shooters Wood scrambled home in the Jenny Mould Memorial Handicap Chase at Cheltenham.

The Paul Nicholls-trained winner, who has returned from two years off in the form of his life, followed up his victory at the last Cheltenham meeting as he edged out His Excellency by a length and a quarter.

The 11/4 joint-favourite was a thoroughly deserving winner, having seen off the persistent attentions of Garynella only to be challenged and headed by His Excellency soon after the final fence.

Tony McCoy had nursed His Excellency into the race from off the pace, but his mount didn't look the most straightforward as he swished his tail throughout the closing stages. And when push came to shove for the champion, it was Walsh's mount who found most under maximum pressure.

"We haven't had him long and he has just improved and improved," said Nicholls.

"He's idle and Ruby just said he waits for something to come alongside and he goes again. He could have a break before the Grand Annual back here."
