Kauto Stone won the JNwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal for Paul Nicholls and Daryl Jacob.

The six-year-old was following in the hoofprints of half-brother Kauto Star in winning Northern Ireland's premier chase and jumped and travelled well throughout.

The 4/1 chance went to the front between the final two fences and a fluent leap at the last sealed his win, Jacob driving Kauto Stone out to score by a length from the dogged First Lieutenant (9/2).

Last year's winner Quito De La Roque (2/1 favourite) had to settle for third spot this time around while Sizing Europe was a notable non-runner.

Jacob told At the Races: "He did it nicely. He travelled well and we got a lovely lead through the race. I think he will improve from that.

"They went a nice, even gallop all the way. He travelled well in the Tingle Creek Chase (last year) so he was always going to travel well today.

"Paul is a master at keeping horses fresh and well and I'm sure he will have a nice target in mind for him at home."
