Richard Price's seven-year-old won the Bronze Cup last year and proved his liking for the course and distance once again with a win at odds of 12-1.

The winner was drawn in 21 and came up the stands' rail, with runner-up Marvellous Value (20-1) also drawn high in 24.

Amy Ryan took the third home Advanced (25-1) up the centre of the track while the fourth home was Maarek at 25-1.

Price said: "We were as confident as you can be in a race like this, because the draw can be a lottery. You really don't know.

"But the ground came right for him, we knew we had him right and he has done it well.

"He won the Bronze Cup last year, so we were hoping to go for the Silver Cup, and fortunately he just crept in.

"He has not had his ground so far this season really, but on the other hand I wasn't quite sure how he would handle ground as soft as this.

"Dale gets on so well with him, when others ride him he rears up in the stalls and misses the break."

When asked if he would go for the Gold Cup next year, Price said: "He's a seven-year-old now so I don't know, it is nice to have won a Bronze and a Silver anyway.

"He will now go for the race at Haydock (next Saturday) which he went on and won after landing the Bronze last year."

Rotherham-born Swift said: "He's been a very good horse to me, and I love him.

"I hit the front too soon really three out and I had to take a pull just in case he didn't last home.

"He loves some cut in the ground and he is a great favourite of mine."

Adam Kirby, who finished sixth on Mirza, was suspended for four days for using his whip with excessive frequency and not allowing his mount time to respond.
