A typically wide-open renewal of a handicap that has unearthed some smart sprinters down the years. William Haggas has a fine record on the Knavesmire and turns up with Royal Mezyan and Zaraee, both of whom showed sparkle as juveniles but have been absent for over 250 days. DANZENO and Naadirr, both lightly-raced and progressive, make plenty of appeal towards the head of the weights and Michael Appleby's Denounce gelding is preferred on the back of a decisive success in a competitive Newmarket handicap on reappearance. He's had a good rest since and his shrewd handler is sure to have him spot-on. Betimes has also had just the three runs and John Gosden rates her highly, a view endorsed by a pleasing runner-up effort behind Aeolus in Listed company. She merits respect while Charles Molson represents the Candy team which has recently struck form and Eastern Impact is expected to take a 5lb rise in his stride after dealing with a useful field of sprinters last time.
