Dr Irv (15/8), Almagest (3/1), Sir Frank Morgan (5/1), Miss Macnamara (13/2), Hallstatt (8/1), Bowdler's Magic (11/1)
Dr Irv won this a year ago in the middle of a purple patch that brought three victories. He's only 6lb higher and ran well enough here last week to be considered again. ALMAGEST is back on the same mark as his last Success at Beverley in August. He's been racing at a higher grade subsequently and though this is tough a chance is taken on him getting back to his best. Dark Ruler is probably the form pick on his three runs this season but he likes soft ground and this could prove too quick. Hallstatt loves fast conditions and very nearly completed a hat-trick when beaten a head by Eagle Rock at Doncaster. The assessor may not have got to him yet and he's definitely on the shortlist. Miss Macnamara loves it around here and the fact that she flopped at Chester last time shouldn't be held against her but Sherman McCoy was beaten a distance at Ayr on Monday.
Dark Ruler (IRE) 3-1fav (8-13) In touch, pushed along over 3f out, headway 2f out, ridden and kept on same pace, 3rd of 10, 8l behind Beacon Lady (8-9) at Epsom Downs 1m 4f hcp 0-95 (3) gs in Apr.
Sherman McCoy 4-1 (9-7) Tracked leader until ridden over 3f out, weakened over 1f out, 6th of 7, 26l behind Gold Chain (8-6) at Ayr 1m 5f hcp 0-75 (5) gf.
Sir Frank Morgan (IRE) 5-1 (9-7) Tracked clear leader, pressed leader 3f out, weakened over 1f out, 10th of 11, 19l behind Teak (9-2) at Pontefract 2m 2f hcp 0-85 (4) gd in Jun.
Dr Irv 5-4fav (9-7) Tracked leaders after 3f, ridden to chase winner 3f out, clear with winner 2f out, ran on, but no impression final furlong, 2nd of 6, 2 1/2l behind Hot Spice (9-2) at Catterick 2m hcp 0-75 (5) gf.
Miss Macnamara (IRE) 11-4 (9-0) Held up in touch in rear, went 3rd and ridden over 2f out, soon outpaced, well held from over 1f out, 3rd of 5, 15l behind Kashgar (9-4) at Chester 2m hcp 0-85 (4) gs in Jun.
Hallstatt (IRE) 6-1 (8-1) Tracked leaders in 3rd, led over 1f out, headed final furlong, kept on and just held close home, 2nd of 4, hd behind Eagle Rock (9-7) at Doncaster 1m 7f hcp 0-85 (4) gf in Jun.
Almagest 25-1 (9-1) Midfield, headway over 1f out, soon hung left, kept on same pace, 6th of 9, 6l behind Dolphin Village (8-7) at Thirsk 1m 4f hcp 0-90 (3) gf in Jun.
Bowdler's Magic 33-1 (9-5) Towards rear, pushed along over 6f out, headway on outer entering final furlong, stayed on towards finish, 4th of 11, 3l behind Teak (9-2) at Pontefract 2m 2f hcp 0-85 (4) gd in Jun.
