Both of Like A Prayer's victories so far have come on the Polytrack and he was well beaten off today's mark at Newmarket back on Turf. After The Goldrush is tried in blinkers but is proving frustrating and Royal Encounter is also struggling to get his head in front. Jersey Brown keeps finding one too good while Orlando Star may have stamina issues but lightly-raced RED VELOUR appeared to last home over the trip at Newmarket and shouldn't be written off just yet. He has more scope than the majority of these so gets the nod with Warwick winner Ixelles Diamond reverting to type at Nottingham next time.
Ixelles Diamond (IRE) 8-1 (8-11) Slowly into stride towards rear, pushed along 4f out, late headway final furlong, never a factor, 5th of 9, 9l behind Rough Courte (8-11) at Nottingham 1m 3yo stk 0-70 (5) gf in May.
After The Goldrush 8-1 (9-4) Held up in touch in mid-division, good headway near side halfway, chased leaders over 3f out, 2nd well over 1f out, soon ridden and hung left, lost 2nd over 1f out, kept on same pace in 3rd, 3rd of 10, 4 1/2l behind Space Walker (9-3) at Windsor 1m 3yo hcp 0-75 (5) sft in May.
Light Of Asia (IRE) 10-1 (8-12) Slightly impeded and slowly into stride, in touch, outpaced over 3f out, no impression after, one pace, 4th of 6, 7l behind Luck Of The Game (8-12) at Wolverhampton 1m 1f mdn auc stks (5) pol in Apr.
Jersey Brown (IRE) 5-1 (8-10) Stated slowly, well in rear, good headway over 2f out, chasing leaders when switched left and went 2nd over 1f out, stayed on same pace final furlong, nearest finish, 2nd of 10, 2l behind Space Walker (9-3) at Windsor 1m 3yo hcp 0-75 (5) sft in May.
Red Velour 8-1 (9-0) Chased leaders, effort over 2f out, soon one pace, 5th of 11, 8l behind Yuften (9-5) at Newmarket 1m 3yo mdn (4) gf in May.
Like A Prayer 7-4fav (9-0) Raced wide keen tracked leaders, ridden when short of room approaching final furlong, faded inside final furlong, 6th of 8, 6l behind All Talk N No Do (9-6) at Newmarket 1m 3yo hcp 0-75 (5) gf in May.
Charlie Wells (IRE) 6-1 (9-0) Very slowly away and lost many lengths, always in rear, never a factor, 6th of 7, 15l behind Good Value (9-0) at Kempton 1m 2f 3yo stks 0-70 (5) pol in Apr.
Royal Encounter 7-2 (8-12) Led over 4f out, ridden and headed over 1f out, kept on one pace, 3rd of 11, 10l behind Bretherton (8-12) at Southwell 6f mdn stks (5) fbs in Feb.
