Step To The Shears faces a stiff task if he is to give the Richard Hannon stable a fifth win in nine runnings of Friday's Rose Bowl Stakes at Newbury.
The Listed juvenile race, sponsored By Compton Beauchamp Estates Ltd, has attracted five runners including Henry Candy's Limato, who has impressed in two wins at Kempton.
William Haggas' runner Adaay lost his unbeaten record when eighth in the Coventry Stakes while Cotai Glory won well at Bath last time.
Step To The Shears, named after the pub at the bottom of Hannon's gallops, got off the mark at the second attempt in a maiden at Goodwood and followed up in a conditions event at Salisbury.
Hannon told his stable website: "Pat Dobbs has ridden Step To The Shears in all his three races so stays aboard, and he is proving a good fun horse who continues to improve and deserves a shot at this Listed prize."
