Tail Of The Bank initiated a magical 1004-1 Notebook double with a hard-fought success in the novices' handicap hurdle at Newbury. Interestingly, Laura Young reckoned her recent Newcastle scorer wasn't badly handicapped off 119 and the son of Flemensfirth confirmed that view under top weight. This better ground helped the highly progressive seven-year-old and he'll be a serious chaser next season.
Congratulations to Chris Bealby for keeping the faith with 66-1 winning Notebook horse Di Kaprio. The under-rated Grantham trainer insists today's bumper winner schools exceptionally well and connections can't wait to run him over hurdles.
Howard Johnson expected Washington Irving to win the Grade 2 Premier Kelso Hurdle, granted decent ground but the classy Flat-bred had no chance in the prevailing heavy. He travelled well but was simply unable to pick up his feet in the home straight. Keep him in mind on better ground in the spring.

Salut Flo proved extremely well handicapped when romping home in the handicap chase at Doncaster. David Pipe's French import travelled strongly throughout and was never off the bridle in recording this wide-margin victory. He's in the Jewson at Cheltenham but might not make the cut. However, keep him in mind when stepped up in class. Impressive.
Tony McCoy's body language spoke volumes when keeping a tight hold of La Sarrazine's head to win more than a shade cosily in the mares' handicap hurdle. The daughter of classy miler Medicean was ridden off the pace and gradully wore down the opposition under hand riding. The assessor might add on a few pounds for the ease of this success but she's very lightly raced and open to any amount of improvement. She looked likely to progress for the experience on paddock inspection.

Reverend Green was ridden patiently in the mile-and-a-half handicap at Southwell but Kevin Ryan's four-year-old had won a bumper over two furlongs further. He also won over a mile on the Flat a month ago when putting in very good late work. Admittedly, that form is weak but surely this grinder will benefit from more aggressive tactics over a longer trip.
