A drop back to two miles and three furlongs saw Jonjo O'Neill's Albertas Run (7-1) return to the winner's enclosure for the first time since the 2008 RSA Chase at Ascot on Saturday.
The unpredictable gelding seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself in the Amlin 1965 Chase as he made most of the running under Tony McCoy, who drove him out to defeat 100-30 favourite Planet Of Sound and Voy Por Ustedes by three lengths.
McCoy said: "He struggled a bit last season, but he was second in the King George. I wasn't sure this trip would work but after three fences he seemed really happy and I was never forcing him."
Owner Trevor Hemmings' son Philip added: "He'll have the entry in the King George but I think my dad and Jonjo will get their heads together and look at the options as it depends on the ground."
