John Oxx has admitted he has no regrets about Sea The Stars missing the Breeders' Cup.
The 2000 Guineas, Derby and Arc winner was retired to stud rather than taking on the likes of Zenyatta at Santa Anita, and the trainer told the Racing Post that it "right thing to do".
"It was the obvious decision at the time and I was never going to regret it no matter what happened on the night," he said.
Oxx was however left deeply impressed by Zenyatta's win in the Classic - her 14th straight success to maintain a perfect career record.
"The whole Zenyatta thing is a great story," he added.
"It is a bit like Sea The Stars over here where everyone was behind him and everyone wanted him to win."
He would not be drawn into a prediction though over who may have come out on top had the two clashed at Santa Anita.
He said: "It is pointless thinking about what might have happened.
"She does have the advantage as she races on those tracks all the time. The jockey (Mike Smith) rides her with marvellous confidence - a bit like Mick (Kinane) on Sea The Stars."
