I was surprised that Nicky Nutjob won at Wetherby on Friday but that said, I always thought he would be capable of winning a juvenile hurdle.
It was very pleasing the way he picked up as he had run some creditable races but perhaps just lacking a wee bit of ability.
But he has done it nicely and the track suited him as a test of stamina is what he wants and he oustayed the others.
He was a bit fortunate as there was a bit of carnage in behind with a couple of them scrimmaging and that has helped me.
But he has still put his head down nicely from the back of the last and boxed on really well which is a good attribute to have with a juvenile hurdler.
I have not spoken to Jeff (Pearce, trainer) but on the back of that I think he is going to have to aim a bit higher with him which will be great for the owners to have a day out at the bigger tracks.
I am sure you will see him in one of the better juvenile events but I would just be worried that will be his limit.
We have had some rain this week and fields are getting bigger so things are starting to roll along nicely.
We had a big schooling session on Monday at Alan King's and all the novice chasers that needed to see a fence did so.
It is getting into full swing at home and everything jumped well and went nicely.
Alan has plenty of horses entered at Wincanton on Saturday and I would imagine that is where Choc (Thornton) will go.
He also has a couple in at Sandown so that is where I will end up I imagine.
He has one in the juvenile and a few in the bumper but they are entered here, there and everywhere at the moment so it is early doors - but I expect to be at Sandown.
Just reflecting on Oh Crick's effort at Exeter in the big race on Tuesday, I think he has run well.
Alan had already said that his horses are a fortnight behind with us only just getting on the grass and I know that Choc was very happy with him.
He did need the outing but has galloped on to the line and it was a great starting point for him.
