Frankie Dettori completed a 27-1 double, highlighted by the success of Godolphin's Kirklees in the Helical Bar Gala Stakes, to kick off Coral-Eclipse weekend at Sandown.

Although Sheikh Mohammed's operation are without a representative in Saturday's feature, there was plenty to like about Kirklees' four-length romp as the 85-40 favourite.

Trainer Saeed bin Suroor was responsible for three of the seven runners, but his stable jockey chose correctly and the Dubai Sheema Classic disappointment bounced back to rout his rivals.

Bin Suroor said: "The break he had since running in Dubai has helped. He had improved in his work and that gave me confidence coming here.

"He has many entries but would need to improve to run in the King George.

"I am sure he will come on for this and we will keep our options open."

Dettori earlier teamed up with his old favourite, Canadian Danehill (8-1), to strike in the fast-and-furious Cadogan Keelan Westall Handicap.

The Italian had been aboard Robert Cowell's sprinter for three of his 14 previous wins and extended that record by keeping on best of all to hold the 2005 winner of the five-furlong dash, The Jobber, by three-quarters of a length.

Cowell said: "I was delighted that Frankie was available to ride and they are a great combination.

"He is entered again at Newmarket next week and Frankie has already put his name forward to ride!

"If it is good ground then he will take his chance with a 6lb penalty."

Iver Bridge Lad progressed from a stylish win on the all-weather to cause a 14-1 upset in the Foundation Developments Dragon Stakes.

The Avonbridge colt had some decent juvenile form on turf to his name from earlier in the campaign and coped with the drop back to five furlongs to burst through between horses and deny 15-8 joint favourite Di Stefano by half a length.

Trainer John Ryan - who was also on the mark at Warwick - was represented by his father, Michael, who said: "He has done it well and is a tough little horse.

"He is progressing all of the time and puts his head down and battles."

Darryll Holland, who partnered the runner-up, picked up a two-day suspension (July 17-18) for careless riding.

Dreamspeed overcame a tardy start to make a successful racecourse debut under William Buick in the British Land EBF Maiden Stakes.

With the odds-on favourite Pytheas never landing a blow, the way was left clear for Andrew Balding's 6-1 newcomer to make giant strides down the outside of the field and claim a half-length verdict.

Balding, who sent out a 226-1 across-the-card treble after two winners at Warwick, said of the half-brother to Dream Eater: "He is very different to Dream Eater in that he is very laid back and he will get a mile and a quarter in time.

"We will have to discuss plans but I would imagine he will end up in Pattern races."

Fanjura found the splits coming at the right time to take the Taylor Wessing Handicap at odds of 14-1, while Alanbrooke (100-30) appreciated the step up to a mile and three-quarters in the Property Race Day Handicap.
