Lush Lashes was denied a victory in Qatar Petroleum Prix de l'Opera by German raider Lady Marian.

Jim Bolger's gutsy filly looked set to add to her impressive Group One tally when forcing her way though a small gap on the rails.

However, Dominique Boeuf brought his mount with a withering run down the outside for an impressive victory for trainer Werner Baltromei.

James Given's Lady Gloria made the running and ran a brave race before drifting off the rail slightly to allow Kevin Manning to drive Lush Lashes through.

For a brief moment it looked as if Bolger would be welcoming yet another big winner but Lady Marian (16-1) found an impressive turn of foot.

John Oxx's Katiyra ran on from the rear to claim third but the O'Brien duo of You'resothrilling and Moonstone were well beaten.

Boeuf said: "She's a fighter and she won easily in Deauville. "She's very strong, she's a fighter and she likes to race.

"When the door opened she flew."

Baltromei said: "She was a very late filly and took a long time to get stronger.

"We were always looking at this race and then the Breeders' Cup, but obviously we'll have to see how she is after the race.

"I hope that she stays in training."

Lush Lashes was a length and a half down at the line and Bolger said: "She had plenty of room to get through on the rail but has returned with cut on the outside of her off-fore.

"I think that will be quite sore and we'll have to see how long that holds her up for before making a plan."

Oxx said of Katiyra: "She ran very well but had a poor start and lost a lot of ground. She had a lot of ground to make up in the straight and stayed on well.

"We'll give her a break now but I expect she'll stay in trianing next year."
