Holy Roman Emperor bounced back from a below-par effort in the Coventry Stakes by winning the Anheuser-Busch Adventure Parks Railway Stakes at the Curragh.
Aidan O'Brien's juvenile finished an eight-length 15th behind Hellvelyn at Royal Ascot but proved that form all wrong with a highly-impressive display in the hands of Kieren Fallon.
Fallon, who landed this Group Two event last season with Ballydoyle's subsequent 2000 Guineas victor George Washington, looked a picture of composure aboard the Danehill colt as Drayton took them along at a good pace.
The Irish rider slowly worked his way into contention, however, and got a real tune out of Holy Roman Emperor once he pressed the button inside the final furlong.
Runner-up Drayton ploughed a lone furrow on the stands side but could not match the turn of foot of the 4-1 winner, who strode purposefully past the winning post with three-quarters of a length to spare.
Excellent Art, the well-supported 11-8 favourite, looked in trouble some way out and had to be content with third place under Michael Kinane.
O'Brien said: "He won easily first time at Leopardstown but probably didn't learn a lot.
"He was then out all by himself at Ascot so Kieren just looked after him.
"He's a nice colt and picked up well.
"I would say that was a good race with all the form that is there.
"He's a nice two-year-old. He's strong and powerful and we'll look to step him up now and perhaps go to the Phoenix Stakes (at the Curragh on August 13)."
