Shaun Keightley has reiterated his intention to appeal against the three-year suspension imposed by the Jockey Club over the running and riding of Red Lancer at Wolverhampton in 2003.
The trainer was found guilty of five charges at a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday and was also fined £3,500 as well as being told he could not reapply for a licence for a further two years after his ban expires.
The hearing ended a lengthy investigation which began after Red Lancer finished ninth of 11 runners in the wolverhampton-racecourse.co.uk Selling Stakes at Dunstall Park on October 20, 2003.
Red Lancer's jockey Pat McCabe was banned for 28 days after being found in breach of rule 157, which concerns allowing a horse to run on its merits.
"You have seven days to lodge the appeal after you receive the papers on the verdict, so it will be next week," Keightley told At The Races.
The trainer was asked if it was the 'last chance saloon' in terms of his finances and he replied: "It is, but if you want to clear your name you have got to do it.
"If I was guilty, it would have been cheaper for me to hold my hands up and walk away."
