Double: Striker Torres and Cape Tribulation

Striker Torres has improved steadily with each run and he looks to have a great chance of breaking his duck in the Society Lifestyle And Leisure Magazine EBF Maiden Stakes at Doncaster.

Trained by Bryan Smart, the two-year-old arrived at Haydock for his racecourse debut in July with a tall home reputation and was duly sent off favourite.

However, he was far too green to do himself justice on that occasion and trailed home fourth behind the useful Desert Phantom.

Given over two months off in an attempt to help him mature, the Danehill Dancer colt showed improvement on his next start at Pontefract but never looked like winning as he finished third, although the form has been boosted by the winner and runner-up since.

On his last start at Redcar he appeared to be going nowhere with a furlong to run but suddenly found his stride as it appeared that he penny had finally dropped for him.

Beaten only three-quarters of a length, expect him to be much more professional this time.

The Racing Post Nursery looks a very tricky affair so it could be best to just stick to the old adage of backing the top weight in a nursery.

Mark Johnston's Parthenon made an impressive winning debut at Leicester in heavy ground and was stepped up in class considerably for his next start.

Up against the likes of Wingwalker and Rileyskeepingfaith he was not disgraced in finishing fourth at Sandown in a good little race.

There is a chance that race came too soon as it was only eight days after his initial experience and being given time to mature, there may be more improvement to come from him.

The feature Rectangle Group Handicap looks a bit of a punting minefield but if the result of the Portland Handicap at the St Leger meeting is anything to go by, it is best to concentrate on those drawn high.

One who fits the bill is Walter Swinburn's Shifting Star, who rattled up a hat-trick earlier in the season.

He was then fourth behind Mike de Kock's Warsaw in a decent race at Kempton off 99 before running no sort of race on bottomless ground in the Ayr Gold Cup.

Dropped 1lb and returned to a sound surface he may spring back to life.

Malcolm Jefferson, who has a very good record down the years with dual purpose performers, has possibly the most interesting runner on the card in Cape Tribulation in the Betting Shop Manager Of The Year Handicap.

The Hernando gelding looked a star in the making in the bumper sphere and finished third at the Grand National meeting.

He has now broken his duck under Flat Rules and Jefferson is eyeing the November Handicap.

Nemorosa should win the Ladbrokescasino.com Maiden Stakes at Wolverhampton after a hugely encouraging debut run.

Fakenham course specialist Cool Roxy is bound to put up a bold show in the Alan Blackmore Birthday Handicap Chase, named after his trainer and a race he won last year.
