New Year's Day ITV7 guide

Dave Smith guides punters towards the £50,000 first prize in the free-to-play ITV7.

13:40 Mussleburgh - Betway First Foot Juvenile Hurdle (Class 4)

A tricky little handicap to decipher first up and a chance is taken on Charlie Longsdon's charge FORTH BRIDGE who makes the mammoth 700-mile round trip for this race. He's a six-year-old who is capable of progression and is the trainer's only runner on the card.

14:00 Cheltenham - Download The BetBright App Handicap Chase (Grade 3) (Class 1)

A cracking handicap for punters to get stuck into and the selection is HAPPY DIVA who was brought down when in the race last time out at Cheltenham. Naturally, the handicapper has left her alone and this rates as a good chance to get her head in front.

14:15 Musselburgh - Betway Hogmaneigh Handicap Hurdle (Class 2)

The handicapper may well have grabbed a hold of Irish Roe and he's overlooked for win purposes. GET OUT THE GATE is running off a winning mark and has the assistance of the jockey who won helped him win his maiden. He's a course and distance winner so there are a lot of boxes ticked.

14:25 Exeter - David Lewis Cullompton Pipeline Handicap Chase (Class 3)

Forecast rain may just be the telling factor in what is likely to be a slog in the Devon mud. BIG MEADOW is likely to be a juicy price but he loves the mud and has good form over this distance, which is still a question mark for plenty of these.

14:35 Cheltenham - Simplify Horse Racing Selections With Betfinder At BetBright Handicap Hurdle (Class 2)

Another New Year's Day puzzle to complete and the pin has come down on AUX PETITS SOINS who has a Festival win under his belt off just 2lb lower. He was competitive for a long way when last seen and that should stand him in good stead for this test.

14:50 Musselburgh - Betway Heed Your Hunch Handicap Hurdle (Class 4)

Kevin Ryan doesn't have many runners over obstacles and the Yorkshire based trainer looks to extend the winning run of KAJAKI. The horse has somewhat inauspicious form on the flat but he should be good enough to take this with the booking of Brian Hughes of interest.

15:10 Cheltenham - Dornan Engineering Relkeel Hurdle (Grade 2) (Class 1)

A return to Cheltenham often sees Thomas Campbell run a big race but he's unreliable and that leaves the door open for WHOLESTONE to return to better form after bottoming out over 3m last time. He returns to a shorter trip and whilst he is a proven stayer the feeling is this is more his bag.
