Wednesday's Eyecatchers

This year's renewal of the Cumberland Plate was a rather messy affair won by Noble Alan and there were several hard-luck stories in-behind the veteran winner.

Runner-up Streets Of New York was probably hardest done by but the fast-finishing fourth Memory Cloth was done no favours, either.

Brian Ellison's charge has been in great heart this season and this run shows the handicapper might not have him in his grasp just yet. It also opens up more doors over a mile and a half as previously he had excelled over 10 furlongs.

Pointers From The Gallops

Sir Michael Stoute's workers descended upon the Long Gallop on the Limekilns this morning.

GOTHIC appeared to flatten out disappointingly at the end of his Sandown race last week but there are reasons for sticking with him.

He has ground issues and there is no doubting his ability, and a routine spin with GOOD VALUE and ECONOMY here confirms he is in good order.

ENOBLED looked unlucky at the same Sandown meeting running over a trip that was shorter than ideal.

He was on show, too, moving well in single file with VITAL EVIDENCE and STOMACHION.

ASTONISHING came up the four-furlong strip as part of a quartet that moved in twos.

She was accompanied by EYE CONTACT, and looked well in herself, while MATRAVERS galloped alongside SIR ROSCO.

PAS DE CHEVAL was next up, moving with ROCKET SHIP.

DALMATIA was on good terms with herself in her stretch with Golan's half-sister LONG VIEW.

TALL SHIP blew out in a solo spin.
