Toronado rocks bookies

Sky Bet punters enjoyed the perfect start to Royal Ascot as 4-5 favourite Toronado won the Queen Anne Stakes.

The Leeds-based firm are returning all losing single stakes as a free bet if the market leader wins the first race each day at the Berkshire showpiece and were left licking their wounds on day one.

Toronado briefly looked in trouble two furlongs out but knuckled down well under Richard Hughes to fend off Verrazano and spark the pay-out.

Sky Bet Racing PR Manager Michael Shinners said: “It wasn’t the start we were wanting to Ascot – punters have backed the favourite or got their money back. It’s a long week with plenty more battles to come but we’re already hoping the market leader is turned over in the Jersey Stakes on Wednesday.”
