A fairly quiet Saturday ahead of next week's Epsom Derby Meeting, but we've still some decent Channel 4-televised action from Haydock, York and Newmarket to take in and it's the first-named of those track where I'm heading for this week's blog.
The Group Three John of Gaunt Stakes at 2.40 is the race I'm interested in, being there are a few stand-out trends to take into the seven-furlong contest.
Main Aim was a past winner of the race back after winning in 2009 and 2010 for the Stoute team so with that in mind I like the look of another previous winner of the race - AMARILLO.
This German-trained five-year-old landed the race 12 months ago at 10/1 and with connections securing the services of Richard Hughes here, everything points to a big run.
Add in that this horse fits plenty of the key trends (see below), has clearly had this race as his target for a while and after a smooth win over in Germany last time out then he should be spot-on here. Three of his four wins came on good (or quicker) conditions, but the other came in the soft so there are no issues on that front either.
Key John of Gaunt Stakes Trends:
11/11 - Rated 107 or higher
10/11 - Returned 10/1 or shorter in the betting
10/11 - Had raced within the last 4 weeks
9/11 - Drawn in stall 6 or lower
9/11 - Came from the top three in the betting
9/11 - Had won over 7f before
8/11 - Aged 4 or 5 years-old
8/11 - Placed in the top 3 last time out
8/11 - Favourites placed
7/11 - Drawn in stall 3 or lower

4/11 - Had run at the track before
3/11 - Winning favourites (1 joint)
3/11 - Ridden by Ryan Moore
2/11 - Trained by Sir Michael Stoute
2/11 - Aged 9 years-old
Amarillo won the race 12 months ago
The average winning SP in the last 10 years is 11/2.
