Hawill to miss Newmarket
Lat Hawill is set to miss the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and wait for the Irish equivalent.
Trainer Marco Botti feels the first Classic of the season on Saturday will come too early for the twice-raced son of Invincible Spirit.
He would certainly have plenty to find on his run in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury, when he was beaten seven and three-quarter lengths in fourth place behind Kingman, the hot favourite for the Newmarket showpiece.
There is an extra three weeks to the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh on May 24 which would give Lat Hawill more time to develop and mature.
"I don't think he will run at Newmarket. We left him in as a precaution, but the plan is to bypass the English Guineas and perhaps the Irish Guineas might be the next target," said Botti.
"I thought he ran well in the Greenham, but he showed he was still a little bit green and a little immature.
"Sometimes the Guineas can come too soon for some horses.
"He would have to take on horses with more experience and on the form he has a lot to do.
"I think he is a Group horse but needs just a bit more time."
Lat Hawill, who won his only race as a two-year-old by eight lengths at Newcastle, was a general 33-1 chance for the Newmarket Guineas.
