Lucinda Russell took the training honours on the final card of Musselburgh's jumps campaign as Ryton Runner, Ben Akram and Kris Cross supplied her with a sparkling 243/1 treble.

The threesome were all partnered by different pilots - Craig Nichol, Peter Buchanan and Grant Cockburn.

Miss Russell, who expects to have several runners at the Cheltenham Festival including Green Flag, Tap Night, Thorpe and Lie Forrit, said: "I'm delighted for the young boys but disappointed at the same time as the wins mean Craig and Grant will now only be able claim 5lb instead of 7lb!"

Kris Cross made all for Cockburn in the featured Musselburgh Interactive Novices' Limited Handicap Chase, a race reduced from ten runners to three on a day when there were 22 withdrawals on account of the ground changing to soft, heavy in places after heavy overnight rain.

Clerk of the course Harriet Graham said: "It wasn't forecast and we had to have our first inspection of the season as there was standing water in some parts. All was well in the end considering we were originally only good, good to soft."

Donald McCain notched another seasonal century after Katachenko impressed in the opening maiden hurdle and the pair went on to complete a double with Cool Sky in the two mile handicap hurdle.

Musselburgh next meeting will be its opening Flat fixture on April 18 when it will join Lingfield in racing on Good Friday.
