Richard Woollacott sends Prickles all the way from Devon for the opener at Wetherby and the eight-year-old has been well supported against a vulnerable favourite, who is 28lbs higher than when winning the first of a hat-trick. Last time out Prickles made all on heavy ground at Uttoxeter when wearing a hood for the first time and the handicapper has raised him 5lbs for that. He looks to have the best chance should the favourite not fire.
Dawn Ride has dropped back to his last winning mark after disappointing in his last four starts after winning on back-to-back starts a year ago. Micky Hammond's twelve-year-old has perhaps been given too much to do in his recent starts and if his apprentice jockey can make more use of him in this small field, then he should be involved come the finish. He has bottom weight of just 10st 2lbs, which his jockey claims a further 7lbs, and he'll have few excuses today.
Triple course winner Posh Emily has been well backed to continue her fine record at the track where she is a regular feature and rarely finished outside of the placings. She doesn't fare too well away from here, as her last two runs have shown, and the handicapper has given local trainer Ron Hodges' mare a chance by dropping her to a mark of 90, 7lbs lower than when last successful here. Nick Scholfield looks a strong jockey booking for what could be another local success.
