Kempton workout delights King

Alan King was delighted after taking four of his string to Kempton Park for a racecourse gallop earlier this week.

Grumeti: Worked at Kempton this week

Among them was Stan James Champion Hurdle contender Grumeti who hasn't been out since finishing second in a 12 furlong handicap at Goodwood in May.

Third in the Triumph Hurdle before winning a Grade One at Aintree, the five year old has won four of his six starts over hurdles.

King told his website, "Grumeti worked a mile and a half with Iolith at a decent pace, and both Choc (Thornton) and Wayne (Hutchinson) were delighted with the exercise.

"The boys then switched on to Manyriverstocross and Bensalem (both coming back from injury) for a similar piece of work, and again I walked away delighted. A day-out like that can do nothing but good and it will help to bring the horses on, so we can sit down this week-end and try and formulate plans."

King revealed that Bensalem, who has been repeatedly denied by the weather recently, could finally get his comeback race from injury at either Exeter or Newbury this week.

A return to Kempton later this month could be on the cards for Fair Trade who has been pencilled in for the Dovecote Hurdle on February 23.

Fair Trade won a jumpers bumper at the Sunbury track recently and is on course to contest the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.
