She is likely to cross swords with promising three-year-old Shamexpress in that Group One contest, the first leg of the Sprinters G1 Championship, at Flemington on February 16.
Shamexpress' trainer Danny O'Brien confirmed at Flemington this morning that his charge would be a definite starter, telling www.racingvictoria.net.au: ''We are under no illusions that we can beat Black Caviar but I think the Lightning is the best way to prepare for the Newmarket Handicap so that is where we will go.''
O'Brien said the son of O'Reilly had come through his impressive win at Moonee Valley last Friday in good shape and the three week break to the Lightning and then another three weeks to the Lexus Newmarket Handicap was the perfect progression for him.
A debut winner up the Flemington straight in January last year, Shamexpress again showed his liking for the straight course when running third in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes there last November.
