The nominations for the 23rd Stobart Lesters - horse racing's own version of the 'Oscars' - were revealed on Friday.

Richard Hughes: Nominated for three awards

The glittering awards ceremony celebrating the achievements of jockeys from Britain and overseas during 2012 will take place at the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham on Thursday 28 March in front of a host of sporting stars and celebrities.

Flat Champion Jockey Richard Hughes - nominated in three of the nine categories - could win the first 'Lester' of his career.

Seventeen times Champion National Hunt Jockey AP McCoy could add two more 'Lesters' to his current haul of 18 after being nominated for 'At The Races Jump Ride of the Year' on Synchronised in the Cheltenham Gold Cup and 'Stobart Jump Jockey of the Year'.

Prolinx once again sponsor 'Lady Jockey of the Year' and the winner for the last two years, Cathy Gannon, is nominated again, along with Hayley Turner, the winner of the inaugural Prolinx Lady Jockeys' Championship gold award in 2012.

Voting for seven of 'The Lesters' awards is by ballot among members of the Professional Jockeys Association.

The 'Flat Ride of the Year' is voted for by readers of the sponsoring Racing Post during February. Likewise, the 'Jump Ride of the Year', sponsored by At The Races, will be decided by votes on the TV channel's website during February.

The Flat and Jump Jockey 'Special Recognition' awards now include racing personalities from outside the Weighing Room. A new sponsor for 2013 is the Arena Racing Company for the jump racing award.

The winner and the runner-up in the ARC All-Weather Jockeys' Championship will also be presented with their prizes on Lesters night.

The Stobart Lesters, hosted by broadcasters Luke Harvey and Alice Plunkett, begin at 7pm on 28 March with a Champagne reception and are followed by a three-course dinner with half bottle of wine per person included.

Then there is the awards ceremony and entertainment and dancing into the early hours with Rick Parfitt and his band 'The Party Rockers', with a few surprises along the way.

Tickets for The Stobart Lesters costing £145 (including VAT) each can be bought from the PJA by downloading a booking form at or by calling 01635 778108.
