The owner-trainer from Newdigate in Surrey made a fine impression with his handling of Taajub, who won a valuable Ascot handicap last summer and finished second in two others, as well as placing in Group company.
His final outing proved a step too far as he came well down the field in the Prix de l'Abbaye but Crate is expecting to see an improved six-year-old.
"He has done really well over the winter and I think he'll be a better horse this year," Crate said.
