The last twice Robert Mills' Paperetto has just been denied by two well-handicapped sorts, the latest of these won decisively yesterday despite a 3lb rise in the weights. Taking into account his capable rider's claim, he carries just 8st 4lbs and receives weight from every rival today. This five-year-old is up 2lb for that second and with his trainer sending out two winners from his last three runners today could well be the day for him.
Formerly in the care of Aidan O'Brien, King George River makes his UK debut for Alan Bailey in a competitive looking event that could well throw up some useful sorts. This three-year-old son of Danehill Dancer had three runs in Ireland, where he won a maiden in good style before disappointing when upped in grade despite being sent off 5/4 favourite for a Listed race. His opening handicap mark of 82 looks interesting and he falls into the 'could be anything' category.
A decisive winner of the Cross Country chase at Cheltenham's December Festival, Outlaw Pete bids to continue his good form in the typically fiercely competitive Thyestes Chase. The JP McManus-owned nine-year-old would have gone very close to landing the Cork National in November but for running out at the last, so he clearly has a liking for these competitive events, and this could be another landmark success for his small yard.
