Carter banned for Faffa ride

Jockey Adam Carter was banned for 10 days over his handling of Faffa in a six-furlong handicap at Wolverhampton on Tuesday evening.

The Tim Easterby-trained three-year-old (7/2) caught the eye when finishing third in a four-runner affair won by Roland.

According to the stewards' report, they "interviewed the rider and the trainer's representative. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer. The rider stated his instructions were to drop in, to get the gelding to settle as he had run keenly over five furlongs in his previous race.

"He added that having taken a pull on leaving the stalls Faffa was initially outpaced and then tended to run in snatches. He went on to say that whilst he was happy with his position round the final bend, he had been wasting heavily at short notice and after feeling weak in the straight was consequently unable to ride more vigorously and go for his whip.

"The trainer's representative confirmed the instructions and conceded that he could have ridden a stronger finish. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards found the rider in breach of Rule (B)59.4 and guilty of failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing."

Carter will be banned between February 5-14.
